Disney’s “Christmas Carol” train to make a different Port of call for San Francisco
Well, so far so good for Disney’s “A Christmas Carol Train”. Successful and popular has been the rule so far on it’s nationwide tour. Yet, the winds of change have blown a small detour into the plans for one of it’s next stops...
The location for the tour stop in the San Francisco area for the weekend of June 26 has been changed. The Union Pacific Railroad is in the process of performing major maintenance work on the tracks leading to the Port of Redwood City. Last week the railroad determined that for safety reasons they could not provide the Disney train with access. As the result, the Redwood City event had to be canceled. This is a great disappointment and beyond the control of both the Port of Redwood City and the Walt Disney Studio.
Not to pass up the opportunity to showcase this wonderful project in the Bay Area, Disney has moved the event for that weekend to the Port of Oakland - at the Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, located at Middle Harbor Road and Seventh Street. The Point Arnold location offers great views of San Francisco directly across the Bay as well as a paved space offering safe access for all. Check this link for a map of the park. This link offers directions to the Park from major Bay Area points as well as transit information to reach the park.
Here’s a view (by Alex Ramos) of a Union Pacific passenger train at the Park. Right next to the corner of Seventh Street and Middle Harbor Road!
So, if you had planned on a visit to the Port of Redwood City for this event, change those plans to the Port of Oakland on June 26, 27, or 28. With luck, I might see you there, too!
