The Muppet Movie at the movies? Yes!
Heads up today, especially Muppet fans!
Loyal readers of this space will recall that I am a fan of seeing films in a theater on the big screen as they were meant to be seen.
So if you’re in the area, you won’t want to miss out on this!
Friday and Saturday night (June 6th and 7th) at Midnight in San Francisco, Landmark Theaters Clay Theater is showing 1979’s “The Muppet Movie”. The Clay is located at 2261 Fillmore Street in San Francisco.
From Landmark’s web page some history on the Clay:
The mighty Clay is one of the oldest theatres in San Francisco. Built in 1910 by the renown Naify brothers, builders of the first movie screen in town, the New Fillmore, the Clay was first a nickelodeon house. In April of 1935, Herbert Rosener reopened the Clay as The Clay International, a foreign film showcase. In the early 1970s, the theatre was part of the Surf Theatres group, run by pioneering San Francisco film exhibitor Mel Novikoff. In 1972, the Clay hosted the first midnight movie in San Francisco with the premiere of John Water's Pink Flamingos, and also hosted many other controversial films, including The Life of Brian. Since Landmark assumed management in 1991, the Clay has enjoyed such improvements as digital sound, new seats and an extensive refurbishment of its art deco and classic Greek accoutrements. The combination of classic appointments and modern amenities has helped keep the Clay a comfortable, laid-back place to see unique film programming for almost a century.
Paul Schneblen shares that the film will also be shown next Thursday, June 11th at 7:30 pm, in Ventura (that’s in Southern California) at the Regency Buenaventura theater as part of their Insomniac Cinema program. The Buenaventura is located at 1440 Eastman Avenue in Ventura.
It isn’t often that this one makes it into the movie houses, so if you’re a fan of Kermit and company and you’re in the area, don’t miss out on this opportunity!
